You will begin your Casual Study & Work – City internship by selecting industries you would like to work in. You can meet Canadians working in one of Commercial Drive’s trendy international cafes. Maybe you want to pursue your passion for fashion at an elegant Yaletown boutique. Perhaps you want to hang out with the stars working on a movie set downtown, or experience Canada’s buzzing coffee scene as a barista. There are many positions available to choose from. We will do our best to ensure you are placed in an industry of your choice.
To be eligible for the Casual Study & Work – City internship, you must complete the 6th level of either the General English Plus or English for Academic Purposes Studies programs. These courses will prepare you for your internship by building the practical language tools necessary for success in the workplace. Afternoon elective classes such as Interview Skills, Canadian Business Culture or English for Hospitality and Management give you the opportunity to specialize your English skills to best prepare you for your internship.
Although the Casual Study & Work – City internship is not intended to be a career training program, it offers students a great opportunity to refine their practical English in a workplace setting. Even though your internship takes place after your English classes have ended for the year, it is still a part of your overall education. You must successfully complete your internship to graduate from VGC. During your internship in Vancouver, you will complete online reports that keep us up-to-date with your progress. VGC Language School will work closely with you throughout the course of your internship to ensure everything goes smoothly.
